A brilliant move? A fucking obvious thing to do, which some of us were saying while Bilic was still in charge.

So no credit to Moyes then? Arny didn’t play through the middle in 4 seasons at Stoke except in emergencies so clearly M Hughes didn’t fancy him there either. Moyes realised where he would contribute best and he’s now flourishing

The first half was the best I've seen us play all season, both sides were going for it but we were so much better than them. Second half they raised their game but our defence were organised and soaked up the pressure, couple of great saves from Adrian. The second seemed to take forever to go in after pinging around in front of goal I thought we'd blown it then Arnie poked it home, hope we can keep hold of him in the summer he's so good, quick, skilful and one tough Serb (I know he's Austrian but you know what I mean)

It seems obvious in hindsight but using Arnautovic effectively as a striker was a brilliant move by Moyes. A lot of talk about him not having to track back as previously but he works hard in this role closing down.
He is awkward for defenders because he is too skilful for big lumps to cope with and smaller defenders get bullied
Hopefully Lanzini is close after this two week break and Antonio will have more fitness

I agree, Arnie's Obiang every minute on the pitch and clearly Moyes has let him express himself but is still working very hard. Hernandez is another who's owing his football at the moment, I'd always pick him as he loves the game and he's showing now how good he with a bit more support around him

The disallowed goal was correctly ruled out by the letter of the law. I don't like the way the law is written, but it is what it is.

Some people on here need to grow up.

Arnautovic is an absolute beast and looks like he is loving his football right now. Moyes deserves a lot of credit for getting the best out of him and on a consistent basis too.

A great win today and a huge three points. It doesn’t gloss over an awful transfer window and shocking upper management of the club but, on the field, it was exactly what we needed. Nice to see Antonio creating the first too. He’s had a poor season but we all knows there’s a very good player in him.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Watford - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
As shown on MOTD was a stonewall pen for Arnautovic when he was attacked after that brilliant run in the first half
And Hernandez maybe had his shoulder beyond the last defender when he had his header disallowed

Hey, but it all evens out right?
Another ref today who wouldn’t give us the steam off his piss
Where do they find these people ?

Ron confirms that he thinks obeying the laws of physics is optional.

fuck me - the contact on him was after the contact with the ball

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Watford - Official Match Thread
He got straight back up because we'd scored a goal.

Admittedly, in his general play, he does usually look like he's about to fall over, but THAT was a dive.
If Dele Alli or Raheem Sterling had done that, the same people defending Antonio would be calling for their execution.

Arnie was 2 orders of magnitude better than anyone on that pitch today, worth his weight in gold !

Got straight back up as well, didn't even try to appeal for anything.

Byram and Rice's ages combined add up to less than Evra's.

He was warming-up in front of us, did two sprints along the line then went back to his seat, took his boots off and watched Homes Under The Hammer. When he woke up everyone had gone home and the Six O'clock News was on.

Ron is a wind-up - no way did Antonio dive. Possibly not a foul on him, as the contact on him was after the contact on him, but there was definitely strong contact on him.

One other thing.

How the flying fuck do Byram and Rice get on the field ahead of Evra??

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Watford - Official Match Thread
Well I had us down for a 2-0 loss today so maybe I should predict games a bit more?

Although we were so adept in the second half at giving the ball back to Watford I think sitting deeper was a tactic rather than them forcing us back.

Watford are a great counter attacking team but going a goal ahead gave us the option of putting everyone behind the ball and getting them to try a game they are not so good at because they rely so much on pace.

We had a couple of corners in the second half that they broke from and they were lightning quick at countering while our centre-backs were at the other end of the field. Sitting back and US countering made much more sense but it did get a bit ugly at times.

Then we picked it up again in the last 10 minutes and suckered them.

I wouldn't advocate playing like that every week but it did go right for us today.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Watford - Official Match Thread
A very good first half performance. More on the back foot in the second half, which really needs to be addressed.

It was good to see Hernandez being used properly, that is up front with a big, strong striking partner to play off. Long may that continue.

A special mention for Antonio, who could have cost us that second goal with his dive.
I'm glad the referee didn't blow for a free kick to Watford, and a yellow for Antonio, but by rights he probably should have done.
